John Trumbull was senior Pastor of the Church of Christ in Westbury and one of the Fellows of the Corporation of Yale College. He died December 8th AD 1787 in the seventy third year of his age and the forty eighth of his ministry. He was remembered for distinguished learning, industry, and abilities; unaffected piety of heart; firm attachment to the doctrines of the Gospel; unblemished moral character; studious attention and friendship to the people of his charge; cheerful hospitality to his friends; and ardent charity to the poor. These qualities rendered him respectable in life, and in a firm reliance on the merits of the Redeemer, raised his mind above the fear of death. His memory was held dear to his survivors as a worthy example to posterity.
