Kilburnie was built in the late Federal style by dentist Joseph Lee in 1826 on N. White St. in Lancaster, SC. Its second owner, Ann B. Crawford, transformed the house into a Greek revival mansion in 1834, giving it the style of Robert Mills' splendid courthouse nearby and naming it after the Crawfords' native hometown in Scotland. Kilburnie was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and was described as outstanding in its style and grace. After years of neglect and the threat of demolition, it was moved to Craig Farm and restored by Johannes L. M. Tromp and John E. Craig in 1999, then began operating as a historic inn on May 21, 2000.
