In 1844, Montgomery Bell named his last furnace for James Worley, his faithful slave, who aided him in selecting ore banks and water powers and in all his iron operations. Acting as Bell's agent, Worley carried ironware to Cincinnati and New Orleans, and Bell credited most of his success to him. When a resident of New Orleans offered a large sum of money for Worley, Bell replied, “Not for all of New Orleans.”
