Nojoqui Falls, in Santa Barbara County’s Nojoqui Falls Park, is a seasonal horsetail waterfall reached by a short trail and long valued as a scenic stop between the coast and Solvang. It drops nearly 100 feet over a sandstone wall of the Jalama Formation and is unusual because, as erosion wears it back, mineral deposits in the water have also built the falls outward as travertine accumulates on the cliff face. Its flow depends on rainfall, so it can range from a strong cascade to a dry cliff in summer. Heavy rain in December 2014 triggered landslides near the trail, closing access, though no one was injured.
