A hand-hewn log structure built in 1855 as a contractors office for the southwest branch of the Pacific Railroad later served as the home of Edmund Ward Bishop, founder of Rolla. During the Civil War it was used as officers quarters, and as the Eagle Hotel it was a stage coach stop before the railroad extended westward.
