The Shore Acres Trail
History
3
The Shore Acres Trail follows a former two-track road through the Felt Estate, formerly known as Shore Acres Farm. Dorr Felt initially bought five farms and joined them into one estate, and many roads ran through the property to connect the different farms. Along the trail are lines of walnut and maple trees, and each spring Dorr Felt tapped the maples to create his own brand of maple syrup. The forest on the Felt Estate was photographed in 1922, and the Felt Mansion, built by inventor Dorr Felt in 1928, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
