This area was purchased by the Millersport Lions in 1954 as the first plots of land for the year-round Lions Park and as the permanent site of the annual Sweet Corn Festival. Before this purchase, the festivals were held on the west end of Chautauqua Blvd. in front of the K. of P. Hall near downtown Millersport. The organization was formed in the community by charter members remembered as movers and dreamers whose commitment and farsightedness helped make possible the festival's achievements and the Lions Club's work through its annual fundraiser. The area was named in honor of these founders and their service to the community: O.W. "Fuzz" Allen, Fred E. Berry, Russell M. Bowers, O. H. Dutton, Al T. Francis, Linn R. Harlow, Nyale S. Haver, Everett J. Kauffman, Thomas H. Kindred, Clive Lynn, Arthur W. Peters, John W. Thomas, Maurice M. Thompson, L. Edward Weldon, Frederic R. Bateson, Harvey D. Bowers, Milo V. Chivington, Elwood H. Fahl, Charles H. Hansberger, Kenneth C. Hartman, Ira D. John, Roy E. Keller, Dr. William M. Kuntz, Fred R. Murphy, Bryan V. Redd, Paul F. Thomas, Harold V. Weldon, and Neal A. Wyckoff.
