Four hundred yards west of this site, on December 17, 1861, Colonel B.F. Terry of the 8th Texas Cavalry, CSA, was killed while leading his Rangers in a charge against the 32nd Indiana Volunteers under Colonel August Willich, whose troops were formed in a hollow square.
