Mount San Jacinto State Park preserves a major high-elevation landscape in the San Jacinto Mountains of California, much of it within the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument. Its centerpiece is the weathered granite summit of Mount San Jacinto, rising 10,834 feet and ranking as Southern California’s second-highest peak and mountain range. Unusually accessible from nearby urban regions, the park can be reached by the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, and the Pacific Crest Trail passes through it. The park also includes recognized old-growth forest, and Newton B. Drury Peak honors a former National Park Service director. It faced proposed closure and temporary service reductions during California’s budget crisis.
