Black Moshannon Observatory was a Pennsylvania State University astronomical observatory in Black Moshannon State Park, about 17 kilometers northwest of State College in central Pennsylvania. Established in 1972, it functioned as a university research site until sometime after August 1995. Its principal instrument was a 1.6-meter reflecting telescope equipped with a fiber-fed, cross-dispersed echelle spectrograph. Astronomers there investigated chromospherically active stars, binary stars, and pre-main-sequence stars. The site is significant as a former Penn State research observatory that contributed to stellar astronomy before ceasing operations.
