The Zumbrota Covered Bridge was constructed over the Zumbro River in 1869 at a cost of $5,800. Its original site was on Highway 58 about 1,000 feet from its present location. The bridge was 120 feet long and built in the town lattice truss design from plans by A.J. Thatcher, with construction supervised by E.L. Kingsbury. It served as a stagecoach route between St. Paul and Dubuque, was transported by horses to the fairgrounds in 1932, moved to its present site in 1970, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
