A memorial gun honors the heroic deeds of soldiers and sailors of the Republic in the War of the Rebellion for the preservation of the Union and was erected in 1901 from U.S.S. Tallapossa. Its south side honors the citizens of Rowayton, Conn., who served their country during the Great War, 1914–1919, and its north side honors the citizens of Rowayton, Conn., who served their country during World War II, 1941–1945.
