The Atchafalaya elevated expressway was designated the Louisiana Airborne Memorial Bridge by Act 793 of the Louisiana Legislature on July 10, 1989, in honor of the brave members and veterans of the Airborne forces and the patriotic spirit they represent. It is dedicated to the memory of those brave members of America's Airborne Forces who served, now serve, and yet will serve, many giving their lives in defense of freedom and human dignity, and it pays tribute to their devotion and duty, their valor, and their sacrifice.
