Land Yacht Port-O-Call
History
4
Land Yacht Port-O-Call was a travel trailer park begun in 1969 on 21 acres leased from Melbourne Airport and originally intended for Airstream trailers only. In 1979, seven and one half acres were added, making room for a total of 647 trailers. Much of the park's development was carried out by its residents, retirees from across the United States and Canada. It grew into a small community with its own post office, recreation hall, and library, where many residents, including seasonal winter residents, formed life-long friendships and year-round residents awaited their friends' return each autumn. After 35 years at this location, Port-O-Call closed in 2004.
