Audio Markers

Version -
3.4.0
November 26, 2024

Enhancements

We added high-quality audio to almost every marker, allowing you to listen to a summary of nearly every; historical marker and interpretive sign in ExploreHere.

Click on a marker on the map, and if that marker has audio, you'll be able to play it right from there, next to the "Read More"Ā button. If you go into the full marker details page, you'll see a player come up from the bottom.

Map Filters

Version -
3.3.5
November 14, 2024

Enhancements

When we re-launched ExploreHere 3.0, we didn't include the map filters feature that we use to have in the previous version - But, thanks Heather for the awesome feedback, it turns out some of you used them a lot!

You can now filter the map by marker type, and category!Ā With these filters, it's a lot easier to find "Air &Ā Space Historical Markers", or "National Parkway NPSĀ Sites"!

Swipe to Toggle Like

Version -
3.3.4 (74b3)
November 7, 2024

Enhancements

Thanks to some feedback, we added "Swipe to toggle view" on marker rows, making it easier to quickly mark markers as viewed or not-viewed.

This release went out as an over-the-air update.

Refer a Friend & Partner Program

Version -
3.3.4
November 5, 2024

Enhancements

We're introducing a way to share the app with a friend and they get a 2 week free trial without any purchase required. This also allows us to get creative with different ways to discount the app, and make the app more accessible to people.

We also partnered with Daphne over at What American History is About to setup a partner program so that we can work with creators to grow ExploreHere while financially helping to support these creators via referral commissions. If you know of a creator or organization that would like to join our partner program, have them reach out to me at [email protected]

Bugs

In releasing the referral program, I introduced a bug that causes issues for some users logging in. The resolution to this is to try logging in again, up to 3 times, or reinstalling the app. I'm sorry for the trouble, it was a silly mistake and I don't plan on making it again...

Touch Performance

Version -
3.2.0
October 14, 2024

Continued speed and performance improvements from 3.1.0 - We did a lot of refactoring to make the app feel snappier, more responsive and efficient.

Enhancements

The app checks your location a LOTĀ less often than it previously was - this improves the speed and battery life a lot.

Your location has always been saved locally to the app, your lat/long position is not sent to the server; you can see the points saved locally to the app by going to Settings >Ā Location Points >Ā View points. Each point used to check for nearby markers is represented on the map by a center arrow, and a blue 1 mile ring. The red ring represents the accuracy of the location point.

Bug Fixes

Fixed a crash with a race condition between the local database and the pressable component.

Map & Marker Performance

Version -
3.1.0
October 5, 2024

Thanks to some awesome launch feedback by Julie - IĀ was able to find and improve the apps performance across the board!

Enhancements

Split the data providers out on the map page, so updating the selected marker doesn't cause a re-render of all map markers.

Added tab freezing for pages not in the foreground.

Clicking on the Explore tab resets the bottom sheets back to the initial configuration.

Improved app open performance

Bug Fixes

Reduced the chance of crashing due to realm race conditions.

ExploreHere - 2.0 šŸŽ‰

Version -
2.0.0
May 1, 2021

When I first set out to build ExploreHere, almost two years ago, I built it to learn more about the places I was traveling to with little expectation that anyone else would care the same way I did. Since then, ExploreHere has been downloaded, on the App Store, thousands of times and hundreds of people have left me comments, suggestions and ways to improve the app. Up till now, ExploreHere was built for a single simple use, it wasn't built to grow, scale, and rapidly improve. But, over the past year, I've completely re-written ExploreHere from the ground up to provide a completely new and enhanced experience.

New Features

Android Version, Online Mode, Login & Online Backup, Change Read Aloud Voices, Submit Markers, Native Lands, HMdb Refresh, Speed & Reliability Improvements

Bug Fixes & Improvements

Refreshed database with newest markers

Receive Notifications when in app - If you had the app open and passed a marker, you wouldn't receive a push notification - now you will!

Added 'Report a Problem' and in-app feedback - Now it's easier to get in touch and let us know what we can do to improve the app!

Auto Refresh Data - The app now automatically pulls in updates from the cloud so you no long have to wait for an app update to get the latest markers! Since this puts extra work on the server, this is limited to Pro users only.

New Data Feeds - 130.5k Markers - We've expanded behind just Historical Markers and are adding new data types like; historical bridges, mills, National Park sites, and many more to come! In this version theres; Historical Markers, Ware Memorials, NPS Sites, and Volcanos.
