The McDonnell Douglas A4M "Skyhawk" served with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps in air support and ground attack from 1971 to 1994. It had a crew of one and was powered by a Pratt and Whitney J52-P406 producing 11,200 pounds of thrust. Its maximum speed was 685 miles per hour, with a range of up to 2,000 miles. The aircraft had a wingspan of 27 feet 6 inches, a length of 40 feet 4.25 inches, a height of 14 feet 11 inches, and a gross weight of 24,500 pounds. Its armament included two Colt 20 millimeter cannon with 200 rounds each and up to 14 Mk82 500 pound bombs or a mix of weapons. Aircraft Bureau #158182 was delivered to the Marines in October 1971. The prototype A4D-1 first flew in 1954, and the type remained in production for twenty-four years. The final Sky Hawk, the 2960th built, was delivered to the Marines in 1979. Bureau #158182 was last flown by VMA-131 at Willow Grove and is on loan from the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida.
