Walker River State Recreation Area
Nature
Walker River State Recreation Area is a Nevada state park along the East Walker River near Yerington. Encompassing 12,300 acres, it ranks among the state's largest and newest parks. The park consists of four units of historic ranch country that were reconveyed to Nevada in 2017 by the Walker Basin Conservancy and officially dedicated on September 18, 2018, by Governor Brian Sandoval. The transfer reflects the area's ties to the broader Walker Basin. The conservancy had acquired the land and water rights to benefit Walker Lake and continues stewardship work that supports environmental, agricultural, and recreational interests.
