Wovoka Wilderness is a protected wilderness area in western Nevada within the Humboldt–Toiyabe National Forest, designated in December 2014 as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. Covering 49,018 acres, it is the largest remaining tract of wilderness in Lyon County and honors Wovoka, the Northern Paiute spiritual leader born here who lived in the area until his death in 1932. The landscape includes part of the Pine Grove Hills and thirteen miles of the East Walker River. It preserves Northern Paiute cultural sites and a long human history while also providing habitat for the threatened Bi-State sage-grouse and an important wildlife migration route.
