From 1861 to 1865, Chesterville honored brave and true defenders of the flag and constitution, listing 192 names, including 1 sharpshooter, 2 ONG, 1 OVC, 1 HA, 1 OVG, and all others OVI. The memorial was erected by the children of Joseph and Mary Jane Gunsaulus, friends of the soldiers.
