The original Little Colorado River Bridge stood six hundred feet west of this location from 1928 to 1988. Designed by the Arizona Highway Department as a steel truss bridge, it remained intact and functioned without major repairs throughout its life. The bridge linked north and south Holbrook and connected the southern and central parts of Arizona to the Colorado Plateau.
