Founded in 1949 on former U.S. Route 66 in Arizona, Jack Rabbit Trading Post became one of the highway’s most recognizable roadside businesses through a billboard campaign that stretched from Missouri to Arizona, using a jackrabbit silhouette and distance countdowns ending with “HERE IT IS” at the store. Created by owner James Taylor and Wayne Troutner of Winslow’s For Men Only store, the campaign gave the small desert stop a lasting identity. A large fiberglass jackrabbit added to its appeal, and its imagery later echoed in the 2006 film Cars. Owned since 1995 by Antonio and Cindy Jaquez, it still operates as a notable Route 66 landmark.
