In 1908, Holly Springs' first public school opened on this site in an impressive two-story building that offered grades 1-11 for white children only. The last graduating class was in 1945. By the time the school closed because of consolidation in 1958, it housed only grades 1-8, and high school students were bused to Fuquay Springs or Apex. The building was demolished in 1974.
