Lynn Heritage State Park in downtown Lynn, Massachusetts, opened in 1986 as a history-themed state park within Greater Boston’s Metropolitan Park System. Rather than emphasizing broad natural scenery, it introduces the city through museum exhibits and walking tours centered on Lynn’s working and industrial past. Its exhibits, now housed by the Lynn Museum and Historical Society in the former visitor center, especially trace shoemaking from handcraft production to mechanized industry. The site also highlights engineer and inventor Elihu Thomson for his role in the founding of General Electric. Guided and self-guided tours link downtown sites with the nearby Waterfront Park at Lynn Harbor.
