Pioneer Methodists built and established Asbury Manual Labor School for Indian children and youth, and from this school came First Methodist Church, Eufaula, and the Eufaula Boarding School. Stones from the original buildings remain, and the surrounding graves hold some of these early pioneers. History records Ruble, Bertholf, Harrell, and others as founding fathers. The original site of Asbury School now lies in the bed of Lake Eufaula, and these graves were moved because of the inundation. The site was northeast of this location on what was the south side of the North Fork of the Canadian River.
