In 1880, Frazier, Delk, and James Madison were appointed Orange County Special Road Commissioners and tasked with building a public road from Orlando to Rock Springs and another from Rock Springs to Hawkinsville, a cypress timber settlement and steamboat stop on the St. Johns River. For Frazier, a freed slave, this was an incredible achievement. The Fraziers settled on 160 acres west of the Delk plantation, and over the next forty years Frazier bought and sold many parcels of land in Orange County. Anthony Frazier died on April 4, 1910, and Mary died in Sorrento on December 19, 1924. Mary was the local midwife and helped deliver many of the babies born in Ethel. During construction of the Wekiva parkway, Frazier's headstone was found under a tree. It read 'Anthony Frazier, CK, 21 U.S.B.I.' Frazier was buried on a plot of land he owned, but the gravesite location was never recorded. Around 1910, the land was cleared for citrus groves and the headstone was moved a short distance to under the trees. Now all that remains of this remarkable man is his headstone.
