William Walker, a master mechanic, lived here with his wife Emma, daughter Maude, and son-in-law Edwin Ames. The house stood close to the mill so Walker could be nearby in case of emergencies. Ames served as resident manager from 1883-194 and then as general manager until 1931. The house faced the waterfront to welcome ships and captains, and this side is the rear of the house.
