The 35th Ohio Infantry, in VanDerveer’s Brigade of Baird’s Division, 14th Corps, served under Lieutenant Colonel Henry V. Boynton and Major Joseph L. Budd on November 25, 1863. During the forenoon, Baird’s Division was sent to assist General Sherman at Tunnel Hill, then returned to take part in the storming of Missionary Ridge. The 35th advanced with its brigade in the assault, reached the summit about this point, and captured 3 guns, a caisson with 6 horses, and a battle flag. Colonel Boynton was severely wounded on the slope. The regiment remained engaged on the crest to the left until the close of the battle and then took part in the pursuit to Ringgold. Its casualties were 6 men killed, 3 officers and 19 men wounded, and 2 men captured, for a total of 30.
