George Washington, who became the first President of the United States in 1789, camped at "Ye Fam'd Warm Springs" in March 1748 while working with a group of surveyors employed by Thomas Sixth Lord Fairfax, who owned the land on which the Town of Bath was laid out. Washington also owned adjacent Lot #59. Lot #58 was conveyed by the Trustees of the Town of Bath to Gen. George Washington in 1777.
