Yellowstone Club is a private resort community in southwestern Montana built around skiing and golf on and around Pioneer Mountain near Big Sky. Developed by Tim and Edra Blixseth on roughly 100,000 acres assembled from former timberland in the 1990s, it became known for exclusive membership, low skier traffic, and strong snowfall. Its finances unraveled after a $375 million syndicated loan tied to ventures beyond the resort, leading to Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2008. Sold in 2009 to CrossHarbor Capital Partners under Sam Byrne, it recovered under new ownership while remaining emblematic of both luxury recreation in Big Sky country and a highly publicized Great Recession-era resort collapse.
