The Helmet
Nature
The Helmet is a peak in the Madison Range of southwestern Montana, in Madison County, within Beaverhead National Forest and the Taylor-Hilgard parcel of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. Its name comes from the mountain’s distinctive summit profile, which is said to resemble a helmet. Because of its prominence, relative isolation, and location near Sphinx Mountain, it is readily identifiable from Ennis in the Madison River valley.
