A water trough was constructed on Southern Pacific Railroad property along Cantaloup Avenue to water teams of horses hauling cantaloupes and onions. It replaced a wooden trough on Front Street that had been used during the early industry of shipping mesquite wood. The area's first name was "Woodspur".
