Along the Tidal Delaware Water Trail, Bristol Marsh Preserve contains an important freshwater tidal marsh, one of the few remaining along Pennsylvania's coastal region, with viewing platforms, a walking trail, and interpretive signage beside Bristol Borough's waterfront park. Farmers National Bank of Bucks County began as a private residence for Joseph Craig in the early 19th century, was converted into a bank in 1814, and continues to serve the community as a bank. Burlington Island has been used for agriculture, recreation, and commerce for nearly four hundred years; a Board of Island Managers trust created in 1682 continues to raise funds for youth education, and Island Beach Amusement Park, constructed there in 1917, became a regional attraction. The Canal Derrick moved materials from canal barges to ships on the Delaware River, where the southern terminus of the Delaware and Lehigh Canal flowed into a large basin near the marsh and coal, iron, and lumber were transferred before continuing to east coast markets. The Margaret R. Grundy Museum, built in 1818 and redesigned in the Queen Anne style in 1885, was home to the Grundy family, whose ancestors were among the first to arrive in Bucks County and became prominent 19th century industrialists. World War I shipyards built by the Emergency Fleet Corporation under a contract to construct 40 cargo carriers turned a 260 acre property upriver from Bristol into a shipyard and village known as Harriman; after the war, the shipyard buildings were sold and Harriman was annexed to Bristol Borough.
