At 210 Main Street in Boonton, a substantial brick house built in 1898 for Dr. John Taylor and Adelaide T. Kanouse evolved through several civic roles before becoming Boonton’s local history museum. Given to the couple as a lot in 1897, the property served as both home and medical office, reflecting common practice at the time. Its four-story hilltop design gave it a distinctive form and access pattern. After the Taylors’ connection ended in 1917 and the First World War, the building became headquarters of American Legion Post #124. In 1980, the Boonton Historical Society opened a museum there, later restoring the building and reopening it in 1997.
