Sinister Peak rises more than 8,440 feet in Washington’s North Cascades within Glacier Peak Wilderness, on a high ridge near Dome Peak in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie and Wenatchee National Forests. Its alpine, glaciated setting includes Chickamin Glacier on the north slopes and Garden Glacier to the southeast, giving the ridge a sharp, rugged character. Some summit routes are technical, though the peak can also be reached by a moderate scramble. The mountain stands in a landscape formed by tectonic and volcanic processes, including terrane accretion about 50 million years ago, then carved by repeated Pleistocene glaciation. Heavy Pacific precipitation, especially winter snow, continues to shape this stark terrain.
