Secret Caverns in Howes Cave, New York, is a public limestone cave within the larger Secret-Benson Cave System, known for guided tours that end at a 100-foot underground waterfall. Discovered in 1928 after two cows fell into its opening, it was bought that year by civil engineer Roger Mallery, explored by five teenagers, and opened to visitors in 1929. The cave’s passages display pools, flowstone, stalactites, stalagmites, glacial features, and fossil-rich limestone shaped by solution and later altered by ice and ancient flooding. Long contrasted with nearby Howe Caverns, it also became known for eccentric folk-art billboards and endured a 1995 fire before reopening.
