Robert Louis Stevenson State Park centers on Mount Saint Helena in the rugged country between Calistoga and Middletown, where Sonoma, Lake, and Napa counties meet. Known for a 5-mile hike to the summit, it offers sweeping views across much of the Bay Area and, on very clear days, as far as Mount Shasta. Its varied terrain ranges from evergreen forest in cool north-facing canyons to chaparral on sunnier slopes. The park is named for Robert Louis Stevenson, who spent his 1880 honeymoon at Silverado on the mountain and later used that experience in Silverado Squatters, giving the park importance as both a recreation area and a historic site.
