Buck's Pocket State Park is a two thousand-acre public recreation area on Sand Mountain in northeastern Alabama, centered on a natural canyon along South Sauty Creek and known for sweeping views from Point Rock. Its rugged landscape and largely untouched appearance make it one of the state's striking mountain settings. The park began through a community effort in 1966, when the Sand Mountain Booster's Club formed the Tri-County Park Authority and purchased land, later expanded by Tennessee Valley Authority acreage before opening in 1971. Local lore surrounds its name, and after setbacks from 2015 budget cuts, the park reopened in 2020 with restored access, a renovated campground, trails, and off-road riding.
