Gunters Mountain is a plateau-like mountain in Alabama, part of the Cumberland Plateau and one of the landforms marking the descent toward the Tennessee River valley. Lying just west of Guntersville Lake on the Tennessee River, about midway between Guntersville and Scottsboro, it stretches across Marshall and Jackson counties. Its broad, flat upland is notable enough that the town of Grant stands on the summit rather than at the base, illustrating the mountain’s plateau character. Gunters Mountain is also the highest point in Marshall County and has been known by variant names including Grant Mountain, Gunter Mountain, and Shell Mountain.
