Founded in 1836 as the seat of "Old" Tishomingo, including present Alcorn and Prentiss counties, Jacinto was named for the Battle of San Jacinto. Its courthouse dates from 1854. It lost the county seat in 1870 and was the home of Sen. E.W. Carmack.
