Isaac C. Perkins founded the city of Nashville and Mine Creek Baptist Church, which later became the First Baptist Church of Nashville. In 1848, he became the first president of the Arkansas Baptist Convention. He spent most of his time organizing churches and advancing the Baptist cause in south Arkansas. He and his family are buried in Nashville Cemetery on Isaac Perkins Bypass.
