Cummins Creek Wilderness is a federally designated wilderness area in the Siuslaw National Forest on the Oregon Coast, established in 1984 to protect the last remaining virgin coastal stands of Sitka spruce, western hemlock, and Douglas-fir. It includes the only old-growth Sitka spruce forest in the Oregon Wilderness system, with some trees up to nine feet in diameter. Named for early homesteader F.L. Cummins, the area spans rugged rainforest terrain from low creek valleys to high ridges shaped by heavy rainfall. Dense vegetation supports salmon, trout, Roosevelt elk, black bear, spotted owl, and other wildlife, while recreation remains limited to a single trail through fragile forest lands.
