Robbers Roost is a rock formation in Kern County, California, on the edge of the Southern Sierra Nevada and the North Mojave Desert, overlooking the southern Indian Wells Valley. In the 19th century, its jagged rocks were associated with outlaw activity as a lookout over stagecoach routes carrying gold and other valuables from nearby mining districts toward Los Angeles, the San Joaquin Valley, and beyond. The site is especially connected with Tiburcio Vásquez, whose gang used it as a hideout and lookout. Its outlaw associations made it an enduring part of Kern County folklore and history, and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
