White Mountain, also called White Mountain West, is the highest summit in Idaho’s Salmon River Mountains at 10,442 feet. In central Idaho’s Custer County, near the southeastern end of the range, it stands on the edge of the Frank Church Wilderness within the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The mountain is named for the bright white rock visible on its north and west sides, contrasting with the gray-brown summit rock. Its 3,762 feet of prominence and 29.55 miles of isolation make it a dominant feature of the surrounding landscape. Known for steep terrain, especially above the Twin Creek Lakes basin, it requires class three climbing to reach the top.
