Land of the Yankee Fork State Park is a 521-acre history-oriented park in central Idaho near Challis that preserves and interprets the region’s frontier mining past. Instead of focusing on a single natural landmark, it links park units and exhibits associated with the former mining communities of Bayhorse, Bonanza, and Custer. Created in 1990 with the purchase of land for an interpretive center south of Challis, it includes a museum and gold panning station introducing visitors to the area’s mining heritage. Its mission centers on Idaho’s mining era as preserved in ghost towns and related sites, and it expanded in 2022 with the addition of Challis Hot Springs.
