This memorial honors those from the Kimball community who served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, especially those who made the supreme sacrifice and died for liberty. It also pays tribute to veterans who served honorably in the Reserve and National Guard, to the community’s farmers whose food supplies were essential on the battlefield, and to clergy, school teachers, parents, relatives, and friends who carried out necessary home and community duties during wartime. It includes extensive rolls of names from the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, later years from 1956 to 1960 and 1976 to 1989, and the Persian Gulf period, as well as clergy in service. The project was conceived by the Kimball Veterans Committee, designed and built by Richard P. "Bucky" Korzan with volunteer labor and contributors during the summer of 1992, and dedicated on Sept. 27, 1992. The memorial site was donated by Mary D. Lenz and her children in memory of Paul V. Lenz, and support also came from Mrs. Orrion Barger in memory of Orrion Barger, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who also served the community for many years as a professional photographer.
