Arctic Point Fire Lookout near Big Creek, Idaho, preserves a rare example of remote fire-detection architecture. Built in 1936 as an Aermotor Company tower with a galvanized steel cab, it gained a log cabin residence in 1939 and also includes a standard type outhouse. The site is centered on a 72-foot tower and is especially significant as the last tower of its type still standing in a wilderness area. Used for fire detection until 1997, it was later recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994 for its historic importance.
