Butts Creek Point Fire Lookout stands in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness about 40 miles northeast of Salmon, Idaho, on a 7,836-foot knob amid lodgepole pine, fir, and decomposed granite soils. Built from a kit hauled to the site by a 10-mule string, it reflects the remoteness of this central Idaho mountain country. Its 14-by-14-foot cab, enclosed by glass on all four sides, provides a full 360-degree view across some of the most isolated terrain in the contiguous United States, including the Clearwater, Bitterroot, Salmon River mountains, and the Bighorn Crags. It served from 1933 to 1982 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.
