Coleman County's second jail replaced a small 1879 structure on the courthouse lawn. Erected in 1890, the building is a good example of Victorian jail architecture with some traces of Romanesque Revival, including notable belting at the ground and second floors. The lower floor contains living quarters for the jailer, and the upper floor houses both maximum and minimum security cells. Only one person, a convicted murderer, was ever hanged here.
