Eden Mill Nature Center in Pylesville, Maryland, stands on a site with a much older industrial past. During the 1800s, the property operated as a gristmill, and its name is said to come from Father Eden. In 1917, the dam was remodeled and the site was converted into a power plant, although milling continued there until 1964. Harford County purchased the property in 1991 to transform it into a park, giving the former mill site a new purpose focused on nature and public use.
