Rocks State Park preserves 1,060 acres around Deer Creek Valley near Pylesville in three separate sections known for striking rock formations, creek scenery, and outdoor recreation. Its most famous feature is the King and Queen’s Seat, a 190-foot rock outcrop above Deer Creek, while the Falling Branch tract includes Kilgore Falls, Maryland’s second-highest waterfall, and Hidden Valley offers a more undeveloped fishing area along the creek. The Rocks of Deer Creek drew tourists in the 19th century and were served by the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad until 1958. Acquired by the state beginning in 1949, the park opened in 1953 and today offers trails, overlooks, tubing, picnic areas, hunting, and fishing.
